Senegambia Grand Circuit Tour | 15 days - 14 nights
DAY 1 : Airport/Dakar
Today, we’ll meet and transfer you to your hotel in Dakar.

DAY 2 : Dakar/Goree Island/Pink Lake
Today, we’ll explore the capital of this exciting country. We’ll visit key places and monuments; the Cathédrale Notre Dame des Victoires and parliament building. Then, by boat, we visit Goree Island, once the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast, to learn about our past. After lunch, we return to Dakar to see the Monument de la Renaissance Africaine, before leaving the city to head out to Lac Rose (Lake Retba), Senegal’s famous Pink Lake.

DAY 3 : Pink Lake/Saint-Louis
After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a tour of the lake by 4x4, and learn about the Paris-Dakar rally. We stop to visit the salty lake, and watch the salt harvesters who make a living by collecting salt from the lake.
We continue on to Saint Louis, where we stay overnight. Mermoz Hotel or Cap Saint Louis Hotel.
DAY 4 : Saint-Louis/Djoudj/Saint-Louis/Lompoul
We begin today with a visit to the Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary. You will enjoy a boat ride in the park spotting various birds. (NB : from June to October, Djoudj is closed. During these times we’ll visit Langue de Barbarie instead). After returning to Saint Louis for lunch, we’ll take a city tour of Saint louis by horse-drawn cab. We then head out to the Lompoul Desert, and our desert camp for the night.
DAY 5 : Lompoul/Touba/Kaolack
Today, we visit the holy city of Touba with its impressive mosque, then drive to Kaolack, the capital city of the Sine Saloum region.
Overnight in the Relais De Kaolack Hotel.
DAY 6 : Kaolack/Keur Ayip/Wassu/Tendaba Camp
We begin today with a drive to the border with Gambia. After border formalities, we continue our way to the Wassu stone circle, the biggest and most famous stone circle in West Africa. After lunch, we then transfer to boat to explore the River Gambia National Park where we should spot hippos and chimpanzees, as well as many birds and other animals. Finally, we return to our car and cross the Senegambia Bridge.
We overnight tonight at Tendaba Camp.
DAY 7 : Tendaba Camp/Soma/Ziguinchor
Today, we say goodbye to Gambia, and cross the border back into Senegal. This time, we enter the Ziguinchor region in southern Sénègal. Zig is completely different to the north of Senegal, being the country’s greenest area. After lunch, we’ll take a city tour of Ziguinchor.
Overnight in Nema Hotel or Kadiandoumagne Hotel.
DAY 8 : Ziguinchor/Affiniam/Ziguinchor
Today, we enjoy bird watching on the Casamance river and bolongs. We’ll enjoy lunch in the village of Affiniam, a typical Diola village set in a landscape of kapok trees and rice fields. After lunch we return to our hotel for the night.
DAY 9 : Ziguinchor/Oussouye/Mlomp/Carabane Island/Cap Skirring
We spend today exploring the Casamance region. From Ziguinchor to Oussouye, we’ll see only rice fields and forest. We make a stop in Mlomp to explore some unusual two-storey mud brick buildings, and an old kapok tree used in local ceremonies. We make a further stop in Elinkin, to take a boat to the island of Carabane. Once on the island we’ll take a tour on foot, to study the island’s rich history, looking at buildings dating back from the island’s French colonial past. After lunch, we travel by boat directly to Katakalousse, where our car is waiting for us. We overnight in Cap Skirring. Ibiscus Hotel or similar.
DAY 10 : Cap Skirring/Diembering/Cabrousse/Cap Skirring
This morning we explore the villages of Diembering and Cabrousse. Diembering is an animist village, with a small museum. After that, you’ll enjoy a free afternoon in Cap Skirring. There’s opportunity for souvenir shopping, or time to enjoy a walk on the beautiful beach.
We overnight in Cap Skirring, in the same hotel.
DAY 11 : Cap Skirring/Ziguinchor/Gambia
Today, we say goodbye to Casamance, and travel once again back to the Gambia. After crossing the border, we’ll head for Serrekunda, Gambia’s biggest and most populous city.
We stay overnight in Serrekunda at the African Princess, Sunprime Tamala Beach Resort or similar
DAY 12 : Serrekunda/Banjul/Bakau/Serrekunda
Today, we’ll enjoy a city tour of Banjul. We’ll explore the capital city’s many attractions, including the old town, busy Albert Market, National Museum and Arch 22. We’ll also visit a sacred crocodile pool.
We stay overnight in same Hotel.
DAY 13 : Serrekunda/Banjul/Barra/Juffureh/Toubacouta
We begin today with a short drive to the Banjul Ferry dock, to cross over the river to Barra. We’ll then visit the village of Juffureh, where relatives of the Kunta Kinteh family live. (Kunta Kinteh, being the slave immortalised in Alex Haley’s famous book "Roots". Here we’ll visit the local museum, and take a boat trip out to James Island, a former slaving station in the middle of the River Gambia. Then, we travel north, and cross the border back into Senegal.
We overnight at Toubacouta, at the Keur Saloum Hotel or Les Palétuviers.
DAY 14 : Toubacouta/Foundiougne/Joal/Saly
Today, we continue our journey north, with many stops to enjoy attractions along the way : Foundiougne - to see the oldest Baobab tree in Senegal; Fadiouth – Senegal’s famous "Shell Island"; Joal - the first President of Senegal’s homeland ; and, finally, Saly, where we stay overnight.
Overnight in Saly. Bougainvillées Hotel or Royal Saly.
DAY 15 : Saly/Airport
Transfer to Blaise Diagne International Airport.
The price of this trip depends upon the number of guests; whether it’s a 1-2 person, 3-4 person or small group trip.
